MISSION
SPEEDWELL promotes the creative work of women who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to their artistic practice; we support women of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, gender identities, classes, and abilities through exhibitions, residencies, publications, and documentaries.
VISION
We seek to redress gender inequities of the art world by providing time, space, and financial support to incubate ideas, experiment, collaborate, problem solve, and bring to the global community the fruits of these endeavors.
SPEEDWELL is located in Portland, Maine, which is traditional territory of the Wabanaki Confederacy including the Abenaki, Micmac, Penobscot, Passamaquoddy, and Maliseet Nations.
We acknowledge the painful history of colonialization, genocide, and forced removal from this territory and recognize that we exist on this land because of the stewardship of both ancestral and contemporary Indigenous individuals and nations.
