Freedom & Captivity: Work by Currently and Formerly Incarcerated Women in Maine
We are proud to collaborate with residents from the Southern Maine Women’s Reentry Center and the Maine Women’s Center to take part in the Freedom & Captivity event series. This book is a record of two collaborations from 2021.
It is our hope that this work breaks the silence around what it is to be a woman in captivity and a seeker and demander of freedom. All proceeds from this book will be donated to S.O.A.R. Gold.
S.O.A.R. Gold is devoted to helping women incarcerated in Maine pursue higher education, expand support systems, and successfully reenter Maine’s communities. Higher education is a proven method of rehabilitation. It helps to build self-worth, confidence, hope, and purpose to reduce recidivism and allow women to flourish as successful members of their communities.
S.O.A.R. Gold is founded and operated by incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and the MDOC Director of Women’s Services. It strives to help women pursue education and a supported reentry during and after incarceration. We want to take care of our sisters and their journeys towards success.
