LOUISE NEVELSON
An American sculptor born in Ukraine in 1899. Her family emigrated to Rockland, Maine in 1905. By the age of 20, she had moved to New York City where she emerged as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
Her work pioneered site-specific and installation art through her wooden sculptures. She navigated themes of shadow and space while providing an external scenery that reflected her own personal landscape. Nevelson also explored the world of printmaking and abstract jewelry making. She passed away in 1988 in New York after a lifetime of artistry.
