LYNNE MAPP DREXLER

Drexler (she/her) was born in Virginia in 1928 and honed her painting skills under the guidance of Hans Hofmann and Robert Motherwell. A key figure in the second generation of Abstract Expressionists, her vibrant paintings and drawings seamlessly blend aspects of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism landscape and abstraction.

In 1963, Lynne and her husband acquired a house on Monhegan Island, Maine, where they spent their summers. The majority of her work drew inspiration from the rugged island landscape, incorporating elements of nature and music. They made the island house their permanent residence in 1983, and in 1999, Lynne passed away at their home. Drexler’s unwavering dedication to her craft continues to serve as a timeless inspiration for artists today
